Greece and Cyprus see eye to eye with regards to the current and leading challenges both are facing, the President of the Hellenic Parliament Nicos Voutsis said on Monday.
Voutsis, who is paying an official visit to Cyprus, met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades.
After the meeting, at the Presidential Palace, Voutsis expressed his confidence that “we [Greece and Cyprus] are progressing in the right manner”.
Prior to the meeting, Voutsis also met with Archbishop Chrysostomos II of Cyprus. In statements in the Archbishopric, in Nicosia, Voutsis expressed hope that an honest and viable settlement will be reached in Cyprus, leading to the island’s reunification, with the acquis as a guarantee instead of external guarantor powers.
These efforts need to be aligned with the greater effort to overcome the financial crisis, in both Greece and Cyprus, he noted.
“Greece and Cyprus are fighting the same fights”, said the Archbishop from his part, noting that the two countries are heading towards the same direction. He expressed finally hope that better days will come, both for the people of Greece and for Cyprus.
