Greek PM to Meet with German and Turkish Premiers Over Refugee Crisis

Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to discuss the refugee crisis very soon. This is according to German government deputy spokesperson; Georg Streiter though he did not provide a date or location, according to CNN Greece.
Turkey has been the primary gateway for migrants and refugees trying to reach Europe from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan. As such, out of the 850,751 migrants and refugees that have stepped on European soil this calendar year, more than 703,374 of these have entered through Greece, the vast majority by crossing from the Turkish shores. Most of the new arrivals will then try to move further into central Europe, with Germany having registered 760,000 entries into the country by the end of October, according to Reuters.
In the face of this pattern, the European Union has sought to negotiate with Turkey to decrease this influx. As of November 3, Turkey has 2,181,293 registered refugees according to the UNHCR.
Last week, Tsipras met with Davutoglu in Ankara where they announced that the two countries, Greece and Turkey, will coordinate on a coast guard and ministerial level, without giving further details.
The Athens Macedonian News Agency reports that German Finance Ministry spokesperson; Martin Schafer noted that there are ongoing negotiations between Turkey and the European Union, when asked if hotspots – migrant and refugee registration and identification centres – will operate in Turkey.
