Former Greek Minister Receives Threats from Members of Terrorist Organization

panousis-giannis-areios-pagos-1070Members of the Conspiracy of Cells of Fire issued statements on Monday that criticize former Greek Citizen Protection Minister Yiannis Panousis for his recent allegations and threaten him with repercussions.
Last week Panousis alleged that officials from the country’s governing party, SYRIZA, were having conversations with incarcerated members of the Cells, which have also been recognized as a terrorist group by the United States. He further claimed that he received death threats while serving as minister. In an interview with Greek newspaper Kathimerini on Sunday, Panousis alleged that certain SYRIZA officials also called him asking him to order the release of detained suspects.
One week following the allegations, members of the Cells have responded. Christos and Gerasimos Tsakalos, incarcerated brothers who are members of the group, issued two separate statements both accusing Panousis of spreading lies and threatening with retaliation.
Gerasimos Tsakalos refutes Panousis’s claims that he had conversations with SYRIZA official Panos Lamprou while he was incarcerated, arguing that he was in fact receiving medical care for a hunger strike during the period that Panousis is referring to. He then goes on to dismiss some of Panousis’s other allegations about him.
Christos Tsakalos further accuses Panousis of telling a fictitious story and warns of the consequences that await him.
“Until yesterday, Panousis was simply a pseudo-intellectual chameleon of the system. Starting today he may not have been promoted to a government official, he was however promoted as a target of the Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire, and of those who fight for freedom. His lies have irreversibly made him a target. And that is not a threat. Because unlike Panousis, there is a commitment and history of in anarchic battle,” his announcement reads.
The Greek Supreme Court has launched an official probe into Panousis’s allegations.
