City of Athens to Participate in World Cities Day Festivities on Saturday, October 31

Athens GreeceAthens will participate in the celebrations for the World Cities Day on Saturday October 31 with a series of events.
The Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), devoted to the effective promotion of the City of Athens, is embracing the occasion of the World Cities Day transforming the city into a single stage of parties and celebrations.
World Cities Day is an initiative by the United Nations which promotes the international community’s interest in global urbanization and contributes to sustainable urban development around the world. Athens is once again becoming a city of the world in a global celebration, with the support of the City of Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau – ACVB and the Athens International Airport.
SETE will proudly host a series of events and activities especially designed for this day, to entertain the city’s visitors and engage them along with the locals in one Athenian spirit. The aim is to showcase every single aspect of the endless choices of Athens, by unveiling to the world the real nature and authenticity of the city: the Athens World. Culture, gastronomy, nightlife and the Athenian Riviera represent the fundamental elements and dimensions of this special day for the Greek capital that SETE will share with the international crowd in all-day long street events and parties.
A special wristband will be available to all visitors of Athens, distributed on October 30 at the Athens International Airport and across hotels and city landmarks, as the pass for access to all the events of the celebration day. Holders of the wristband will also benefit from free entrance to many city museums, along with extraordinary offers while visiting some of the most popular bars and restaurants of Athens.
The guests of Athens will become one with traditional and swing dancers to be spotted in historic landmarks of the city and have the opportunity to attend a series of events at the most unique places in town. An idyllic seaside sunset view is reserved for the end of the day, to show visitors the beauty of the Athenian Riviera.
The Mayor of Athens Giorgos Kaminis stated:“Athens is a city of the world, yet Athens beholds a whole world to showcase to its visitors. This world, The Athens World, is celebrated on the 31st of October on the occasion of the World Cities Day. All visitors of the city are invited to discover Athens and experience its uniqueness. For us this celebration is two-folded: to unveil the endless options of Athens as a city break destination and prove the power of a successful synergy of the public and private sector, such as that between the City of Athens and SETE.”
On his part, the President of SETE Andreas Andreadis, noted: “SETE has always been an advocate of Athens as a city break destination. Athens is an epitome of urban modernity and innovative lifestyle among the culture capitals of the European continent. Not everyone is aware of this side of the city, thus we are showcasing these elements to our worldwide visitors. This is more than a weekend in Athens and the World Cities Day represents a unique opportunity for us to fully embrace and embed it. So we are inviting everyone to blend in with us and celebrate the unique character of this city, as a glimpse into the World of Athens until they return to experience more.”
