New Book Promises A Modern Approach To Ancient Greek Literature

A Companion to Greek LiteratureThe new 576 page book of Martin Hose and David Schenker, entitled “A Companion to Greek Literature,” was finally released by Wiley-Blackwell, the international publishing business of John Wiley & Sons.

According to its official synopsis, this newly published book “presents a comprehensive introduction to the wide range of texts and literary forms produced in the Greek language over the course of a millennium beginning from the 6th century BCE up to the early years of the Byzantine Empire.”

Martin Hose is a Professor of Greek Literature at Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, Germany, who cooperates with the Bavarian Academy. Hose has analyzed Aristotle’s fragments, Euripides, Greek historiography, and Synesius in some of his books.

Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Classical Studies at the University of Missouri David Schenker has offered several publications focusing on Aeschylus, Euripides, and Plato.

Through their ambitious literary effort, Hose and Schenker are promising their readers a deep and scrupulous exploration of ancient Greek literature introducing new methods and innovative approaches. In “A Companion to Greek Literature,” one can examine experts’ and scholars’ contributions to the theme, while enjoying ancient Greeks’ magnificent literary samples.
