Orlando Bloom Journeys to Greek Borders for UNICEF

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Orlando Bloom recently traveled to the borders of Greece, as well as Serbia and F.Y.R.O.M, to work with refugees coming in from Syria.

Bloom has worked with UNICEF for a few years now, and he was visibly moved by the plight of the refugees fleeing to Europe.

He commented on the fact that most of the incoming Syrians “are very well-educated, they’ve done research into where they can go next. They’re traveling with just the clothes on their back, mostly.”

The extent of the tragedy of the situation seemed almost unbelievable to the actor.

As he said, “Witnessing it first hand, it’s hard to fathom really the level of stress which they’ve been under and the pain they’ve experienced.”

The point Bloom stressed the most at the end of the video is that the refugees “are in desprate need of our help, desperate need of our assistance”.

The issue of the refugee crisis has been controversial in Greece and Europe as a whole as many Europeans feel their countries cannot absorb the incoming crowd, and Greece has pled with the rest of Europe to ease their burden as Greece’s major economic crisis limits the government’s ability to assist and house so many refugees.

However, organizations like UNICEF as well as plenty of citizens within Europe and all over the world insist that countries must do much more to help the refugees, because the war in Syria has displaced every-day citizens who now have nowhere to stay or nowhere to go.

Hopefully a collaboration between humanitarian organizations like UNICEF, international governments, and citizens worldwide will lead to a solution.
