The body of a young child was detected ashore the East Aegean Island of Kos, on Sunday.
Members of the Greek Coast Guard found a girl’s corpse in the coastal region of Lampi on the island of Kos on Sunday morning, according to a report by the Greek Coast Guard. The child was in a state of advanced decay.
Coast guard authorities believe the hairless child was between six months and one year old wearing green pants, grey t-shirt and a white track suit. A coroner’s examination is currently taking place.
The child and where she came from have yet to be identified, though according to the first estimations she was part of a refugee family trying to reach Greece, Greek media reports.
Migrant and refugee fatalities in the Aegean sea between Greece and Turkey are a common occurrence during the perilous trip from the Turkish shores to the Greek islands. Among the many victims of this journey have been children.
