Dukakis on Tsipras: He Has the Will to Change Some Things in Greece

Former Massachusetts governor and past candidate for the U.S. Presidency Michael Dukakis said that the meetings Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras had during his stay in New York had positive overtones.
Dukakis spoke to Greek national broadcaster ERT and said that overall the Greek delegation was successful in the meetings and contacts they had on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
The former governor stressed the importance of development and unemployment reduction in Greece. “In this area, we are pushing politicians, the Greek-American lobby and other organizations supporting Greece for the utilization of U.S. government programs allocated for strengthening economies such as Greece’s… This is very important and we are pushing in this direction … ” Dukakis said.
The Greek-American politician said that he participated in a teleconference with Alexis Tsipras this past month.
“I think Mr. Tsipras has the will to change some things and to help rebuild the Greek economy,” Dukakis said. He added that the Greek-American community has U.S. support.
Finally, Dukakis said he wishes he had time to visit Greece and that he would like to meet with the Greek prime minister.
