greece-russiaThe war in Syria, bilateral relations, the situation in Ukraine and Greek-Russian cooperation were the main issues covered in a meeting between Greece’s Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias and his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov in New York on Tuesday, on the sidelines of the UN’s General Assembly.
“The General Assembly is very, very important for both multilateral and bilateral negotiations, and in this context we saw the Foreign Minister of Russia. 2016 is the Year of Greek-Russian Friendship and cooperation, and I invited him to come to Athens this year so that we can move ahead with our cooperation,” the minister told.
Asked on what other issues the two officials discussed, Kotzias said they turned their attention to Syria and referred to earlier meetings with his Iranian counterpart, with American officials and European foreign ministers. “So, the Syrian issue, the prospects for cooperation and our cooperation goals. We also talked about the situation in Ukraine and, naturally, about Greek-Russian cooperation,” he added.
