'Navarino Challenge' Event Is a Great Success For 3rd Consecutive Year

Navarino ChallengeMore than 1,000 athletes from Greece, Cyprus, England, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Romania, Switzerland and USA, along with sports fans of all ages travelled to Costa Navarino in Messinia to try various activities, such as basketball, boccia, climbing, cycling, kickboxing, pilates, running, swimming, and taekwondo, on the occasion of the top sports and social event the “Navarino Challenge,” that was held from September 13-15.

Greek-American ultra-marathon runner and ambassador of “Navarino Challenge” Dean Karnazes, Olympic Champion and Twice Gold World Champion in open water swimming Spyros Gianniotis, Gold Paralympic athlete Grigoris Polychronidis, twice Silver Olympic medalist in taekwondo Alexandros Nikolaidis, Gold Paralympic athlete in boccia Nikos Notaras, top pilates instructor Mandi Persaki, as well as another Alexandros Nikolaidis, the kick boxing champion, were among the talented personalities from the world of sports who joined the event.

The multi award-winning sports event “Navarino Challenge” is the first marathon race that aims to raise awareness regarding childhood obesity and the benefits of the Mediterranean diet and exercise. It was held for the third consecutive year under the Auspices of the Department of Nutrition and-Dietetics of Harokopio University of Athens and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) with the support of Costa Navarino and The Westin Resort Costa Navarino as well as the Municipalities of Pylos-Nestor and Trifilia.
