SYRIZA Ready to Form New Greek Government with ANEL: Tsipras Statement

Tsipras_Kamenos_Greek_election“Tomorrow we will continue the same struggle we started 7 months ago,” said SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras after the first results of Greece’s latest election, which his party won with 35.5% of the Greek vote, were announced onĀ SeptemberĀ 20th.
The former Greek prime minister thanked his previous coalition partner and ANEL leader Panos Kammenos and hinted at formally announcing a new Greek government within the next 24 hours.
“I want to thank the Independent Greeks and Panos Kammenos, whoĀ unites his powers with ours today. We unite our flags and powers, beneath the flag of honesty and struggle. And I thank him because tomorrow we will continue together the battleĀ we began seven months ago,” Tsipras said.
The two party leaders hugged on stage after the first results of the September 20th Greek elections showed that they can continue a SYRIZA-ANEL coalition government, supported by 155 members of the Greek parliament.
According to the latest Greek election resultsĀ SYRIZA elects 145 members in the Greek parliament, while ANEL elects 10 members.Ā Kammenos had hinted earlier in the evening that the two parties would resume their cooperation in governing the country.
“SYRIZA is too tough to die,” TsiprasĀ said and added “This result does not belong to SYRIZA. This result belongs to the popular strataĀ of this country. To the people who are fighting and wantĀ a better tomorrow, who dream of a better tomorrow. We will achieve this only through aĀ lot ofĀ hard work.”
The former Greek prime ministerĀ also claimed that these elections have given the Greek governmentĀ a clear mandateĀ to rid the country of the corruption that has been rampant in Greece for years.
