Greek Elections: Polls Divided Between SYRIZA-New Democracy

electionsTwo new opinion polls published on Thursday show that the close race between SYRIZA and New Democracy continues as one survey shows the leftist party leading by 0.6 points while another shows New Democracy ahead by 0.5 percent.
A survey conducted by Kapa Research for tovima.gr on intention to vote shows the leftist party at 29 percent while the conservative party trails close behind at 28.4 percentage points. Golden Dawn comes third at 6.7 percent, PASOK-DIMAR at 5.9 percent, the Greek Communist Party (KKE) follows at 5.5 percent.
To Potami would get sixth place if elections were held today with 5 percent of the vote. Popular Unity is seventh at 3.5 percent, Centrists Union follows at 3.2 percent, while Independent Greeks (ANEL) would make it to parliament getting the 3 percent entry threshold.
Also, 36.5 percent of participants consider Alexis Tsipras to be more suitable for prime minister, while 35.1 believe Vangelis Meimarakis would be the best for the seat. Furthermore, 55.6 of participants believe SYRIZA will win the elections, while only 30.5 percent believe the same about New Democracy.
However, in a University of Macedonia survey, the conservative party is ahead with the leftists falling behind. The poll was conducted after the head-to-head debate between the two party leaders.
According to the poll, New Democracy gathers 30 percent of voters, while SYRIZA follows with 29.5 percent. The extreme rightists Golden Dawn are third again with 6.5 percent. KKE is next at 5.5 percent, while PASOK-DIMAR and To Potami share fiftth place with 5 percent each.
The Centrists Union gets 4 percent of potential voters, ultra-leftists Popular Unity get the required 3 percent to get in parliament, while Independent Greeks stay out with only 2.5 percent.
