Cyprus Peace Talks Expected to Continue in the Coming Months

Anastasiades – AkinciThe Cypriot dispute‘s ongoing peace talk efforts look set to increase in the following months after Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades met with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on Monday afternoon.
The AFP cites United Nations Envoy Espen Barth Eide claimed that Anastasiades and Akinci believe that the coming months will be significant for the fate of the peace talks and that the two leaders plan to “intensify their work”.
The two leaders will have two more meetings on October 12th and October 30th and will begin meeting more frequently thereafter.
Anastiades spoke on the progress of the talks following Monday’s meeting with Akinci.
We have registered where there are convergences and where there are divergences, so that we can focus at an intensive pace on the creation of the conditions, to the extent possible, that will allow us to talk about comprehensive convergences,” Anastasiades told journalists after the meeting according to the Cyprus News Agency.
The Cypriot premier also recognized that there are some problems between the two sides that will not be easily resolved.
