ND Leader Meimarakis Calls on Greeks to Support Party Regardless of Previous Vote

NDMain opposition leader Vangelis Meimarakis send a message of unity to all Greeks to rally behind the party in the upcoming elections regardless of what they voted in the previous elections, during a speech outside the party’s historic offices in central Athens on Tuesday.
“All together, citizens who voted for us and others who are joining us now, we all unite our forces to move the country forward,” the leader of New Democracy (ND) told the crowd which had gathered outside. Meimarakis called on Greeks to grant him a four-year mandate “to implement all the big changes,” while he noted than no votes must be wasted.
He signaled that his party’s priority is to create a favorable climate for new investments so that “the young don’t have to move abroad,” as well as to bring back stability.
New Democracy wants to unite Greeks and fight for them, he said in his speech, adding: “We appeal to all citizens regardless of what they voted yesterday. Come and meet us on the road that leads to growth.”
Meimarakis blamed SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras for creating divisive dilemmas and noted that ND wants to unite generations. “Progress doesn’t mean following everything new without knowing if it’s correct or not, neither does it mean doing experiments that end up with a 90-billion-euro bill.” He also accused SYRIZA of trying to avoid a planned televised debate.
The gathering was also attended by former prime ministers Costas Karamanlis and Antonis Samaras.
