Greek Shipping Minister: 200,000 Migrants and Refugees in Greece Since Beginning of 2015

dritsas-thumb-largeGreek Shipping Minister Thodoris Dritsas announced on Wednesday that 200,000 migrants and refugees have entered the Greek borders in 2015, with 100,000 having arrived in the country in the past two months.
Dritsas cited bureaucratic limitations as a cause of the delayed transportation of the thousands of migrants and refugees from the Greek islands to mainland Greece. He noted that bureaucracy is also the reason why the Greek police in the islands are understaffed in the face of this migration crisis.
Despite this unprecedented migrant influx and the country’s shortage in human capital to deal with the situation, Dritsas said that the Greek Coast Guard has rescued 60,000 migrants and refugees, while there have not been any reported casualties.
