Greek Students' Grades Drop Lowering University Admission Standards

The final lists on Greek students’ admission to higher education were announced on Wednesday, August 26.
Every year, Greek students take the Panhellenic exams in May and then submit their University preferences. By the end of the summer, the Greek Education Ministry announces where each student was admitted based on his choices and grades.
This year’s results show a significant decline in University admission grade standards, even in medical schools which always receive the highest grade students. This was the result of a dramatic decline in the number of transfers and the students’ reluctance to choose schools in the province due to the economic crisis.
Specifically, Athens Medical dropped by 306 points, while Athens Law School and Athens Architectural School dropped by 755 and 526 points respectively.
The only schools that showed a significant rise in grades were the University of Athens Economic Department, the School of French Language and Literature in Thessaloniki, the School of Italian Language and Literature and the University of Athens Music Studies.
