Cyprus Not Rushing for Settlement According to Cypriot Cabinet Secretary

Anastasiades – AkinciCypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish-Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci are working hard to reach a comprehensive settlement on the Cyprus problem, Cabinet Secretary Theodosis Tsiolas said on Monday.
He added, however, that the Greek-Cypriot side will not rush to conclude any kind of solution.
Referring to the UN-led peace talks, Tsiolas noted they take place in “a good and positive atmosphere,” noting that there is optimism due to the representation of the Turkish-Cypriot community by Akinci.
“Every year that passes, you realize, faults, accomplishments are being consolidated,” the Cabinet Secretary said, adding however that “it is not our intention to rush in order to reach any kind of solution.”
Both leaders, he said, are working hard for a solution that will reunite the people, and Turkey is obliged to assist toward this direction.
He added that negotiators, along with Anastasiades and Akinci, need to go through all aspects comprising the Cyprus problem, pointing out that a move from Turkey was also necessary.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third. UN-led talks, aiming to reunite the island under a federal roof, resumed on May 15 this year.
