Athens Stock Exchange To Reopen On Monday After 5-Week Shutdown

Athens Stock ExchangeHellenic Capital Market Commission (HCMC) Chairman Konstantinos Botopoulos told international media on Friday that the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) will reopen on Monday, August 3, after shutting down for more than a month.
“We are working on the basis of Monday but we are waiting for the Minister’s decision, which is the legal prerequisite for the reopening,” Botopoulos told Reuters, admitting that a Greek Finance Ministry decree detailing new trading rules is required.
Taking into account that the stock market has been shut down since June 29, Monday’s reopening may offer crisis-stricken Greece a slight sense of stabilization after weeks of political, economical and social unrest.
