Famous Russian Cosmonaut Arrives on Greek Island of Crete

russian-cosmonautAnton Shkaplerov, a well-known 43-year-old active Russian cosmonaut arrived in Hersonissos, on the Greek island of Crete, along with his family and medical escorts. The reason behind his trip is that the cosmonaut needs to complete his physical rehabilitation program, after returning to Earth from the International Space Station.

The climate, the sea, but also the welcoming atmosphere and kind people of Greece, will play a significant role in helping his physical rehabilitation reach a successful ending, noted Shkaplerov.

“We had many proposals from other countries, but eventually we chose Greece. I’ve heard so much about your country from my esteemed colleague Fyodor Yurchikhin, who has Greek roots and always talks about his historic homeland,” he added. “I have already traveled to space twice and my gaze would always fall on Greece, the crystal clear sea waters, the numerous islands… You live in a magical place, so we decided for the first time to become acquainted with the Greek way of life and culture, the people, the cuisine and entertainment,” commented the popular cosmonaut.

“I wish for Greece to find its way as soon as possible, but also keep in mind that you find out who your friends really are during the most difficult times. I haven’t heard any of my Russian friends say that they want to cancel their trip to Greece, and I think there will be no problem, after all, Russians are used to paying with more cash and less plastic money,” he said.
