Greece Men's Football Team Drops in July FIFA Rankings

fifa_uefa
Greece has slipped another 19 places to claim the 44th spot in the new FIFA rankings of the men’s national football teams released on July 9, 2015.
This is the team’s lowest ranking since 2003 when it held the 30th spot.
With the last ranking having been published on June 4, 2015, the steep slide for the Greek football team is a result of a 2-1 loss to the Faroe Islands on June 13, 2015 in a 2016 Uefa Euro Championship qualifier match.
The formula for the rankings takes under consideration a number of factors including the strength of the opposition which is proxied by their position in the FIFA rankings. The Faroe Islands were placed 102nd in the June ranking while Greece was 25th. The Faroe Islands have now moved up to claim the 74th spot in the latest ranking.
In the qualifying stages for 2016 UEFA European Championship, Greece has failed to win in six matches recording four defeats and two draws.
