Tourists Unaffected by Capital Controls in Greece

The capital controls imposed by the Greek government do not apply to tourists and visitors who wish to make transactions or ATM withdrawals using debit or credit cards issued in their country, says an official announcement by the Greek ministry of finance.
While Greek account owners are limited to withdrawals of up to 60 euros per day from ATMs, visitors to Greece who have accounts in other countries have full access to cash.
Television reports show tourists enjoying the Greek sun in archaeological sites, restaurants and coffee shops, unperturbed by the doom and gloom reports in Greek and international mass media.
Several of them say that they were advised by their governments to have plenty of cash with them and credit and debit cards so they can have alternative ways for paying for goods and services.
Talking to reporters, several of them said that by looking around them they cannot see any signs of the economic crisis, other than the lines in ATMs.
The Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE) issued an announcement noting that, “Tourists that are currently holidaying and enjoying the Greek tourism experience have not been affected so far. We must aim to stay focused on the needs of the tourism season.”
Meanwhile, nine countries have issued travel advice to their citizens planning to travel to Greece. They mostly say that visitors should not rely entirely on credit and debit cards and have plenty of cash with them.
So far, U.S.A., U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Poland have issued travel advice for Greece.
