Hollande: Greek Vote is For Greece to Stay or Leave the Eurozone

French President Francois Hollande said Monday that the referendum on EU’s bailout proposals to be held in Greece on July 5th is a “sovereign choice” on whether or not to leave the euro zone.
“It is democracy, it is the right of the Greek people to decide what they want for their future. What is at stake is whether or not Greeks want to stay in the euro zone (or) take the risk of leaving.”
The French president added he was “always available” for negotiations with Greece and that a deal on its bailout remained possible, AFP reported.
Hollande was speaking after gathering key ministers together early Monday morning for a emergency meeting over the crisis in Greece, his office said.
The meeting came after the Greek government left the negotiations table to hold a referendum asking its citizens to vote YES/NO on the bailout deal offered to debt-ridden Greece by its creditors.
As a result the Governing Council of the European Central Bank made a decision Sunday to freeze the level of emergency liquidity assistance to Greek banks making necessary the implementation of capital controls.
