Thousands of People Visit the Cyprus-Russian Festival

cyprus-russian-festivalThis year’s Cyprus-Russian Festival exceeded every precedent, both in attendance, as well as entries in the artistic program. The 10th Cyprus-Russian Festival was held at Limassol Municipal Gardens, in collaboration with the Municipality of Limassol, the Russian Embassy and the Cyprus-Russia Friendship Association.

According to the official organizers’ announcement, it was estimated that more than 12,500 thousands people from across Cyprus visited the Festival and expressed their satisfaction, as the event is now ranked among the “five biggest and most attended cultural events in Cyprus.”

It is reported that, overall, more than 1,500 artists from 50 dance, music and theater schools from Russia and Cyprus participated in the event, thus forming a continuous 16-hour program over the weekend-long festival.

Several visitors enjoyed the performance by the Coop Band, but also two large concerts with artists Eleftheria Arvanitaki, Nikos Gkanos and famous Russian pop group Fabrika. Furthermore, the Turkish-Cypriot dance band “Othello” from occupied Famagusta appeared for the first time in the event.

President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, the Russian Ambassador to Cyprus Stanislav Osatsi, as well as ambassadors from other countries, parliamentarians, mayors and other officials attended the festival opening. In his addressing speech Anastasiades noted that the Cyprus-Russian Festival has not only established itself as an important cultural event in Cyprus, but has also helped establish long-standing ties of friendship between the two countries.
