Christine Lagarde's Greek 'Guardian Angel'

Christine Lagarde
International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde has a Greek “guardian angel” to look after her.
It was during the meeting with Greece’s Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis, that we learnt the man who is responsible for her security is a former Greek police officer. The IMF managing director attended the meeting escorted by just one bodyguard. According to an extensive article published in Greek newspaper “Ethnos,” the bodyguard, who unwittingly managed to steal the spotlight, comes from Greece.
The 44-year-old Greek security-guard, named Thodoris, used to work for the Greek Police but, in the end, life brought him to Lagarde. The man became the IMF chief’s shadow just a few months ago and earned her trust. She calls him Ted.
Thodoris became the chief of Lagarde’s security due to his impressive resume, but also because of his ethos notes the report. His colleagues describe him as a low-key man who does not like the spotlight, although in the past he has had many opportunities to come to the forefront due to his successes.
Until two years ago, he used to live and work in Greece. He was an officer for the elite EKAM unit of the Greek Police for 20 years. Over the last decade, he worked at the U.S. Embassy in Athens, where he quickly became part of the Ambassador’s personal guard. While working at the Embassy, he met his wife, an American employee, and took the decision to move to the United States where he has been working at the IMF’s security department.
