freight-trainA freight train was derailed around 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 28, near a village outside of Thessaloniki, northern Greece. As a result both drivers were slightly injured and transferred to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
According to Greek news, the heavy rainfall of the previous days caused the ground beneath the rails to subside, resulting in the derailment of 19 of the freight trains’ 27 wagons.
The freight train was traveling to Skopje and it was loaded with electronic equipment. The relevant authorities will carry out the necessary investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident.
