3 Men Dead in Naval Tragedy in Peloponnese, Greece

naval-accidentThe Greek Coast Guard was informed early in the morning of March 24 that a fishing boat had washed ashore at the rocky area around Cape Mouzaki in Ermioni, Greece.
The reasons that caused the boat to sink and then wash ashore still remain unclear. The tragic incident resulted in the death of three people, two Egyptian fishermen, 55 and 32 years old, and a 56-year-old Greek fisherman.
Two more people were on board the fishing during the time of the incident, a foreigner and a Greek man who were rescued by boats that were sailing near the site. Both men were transferred to Kranidi Health Center for precautionary reasons.
According to the Greek Coast Guard, a second fishing boat that was passing by the area of Cape Mouzaki, noticed the vessel that had washed ashore and immediately notified the authorities.
Weather conditions in the area were very good, therefore the rescue center was able to send a helicopter to assist in the rescue operation, while they also requested assistance from water taxis.
The Ermioni coast guard has taken over the investigations regarding the conditions under which the naval accident occurred.
