Greek Director Diagoras Chronopoulos Passes Away at 76

diagoras-chronopoulosFamous Greek film and theater director Diagoras Chronopoulos passed away at the age of 76 after a long battle with cancer. He was the Art Theater director from 2004 to September 2014 and until yesterday was the Greek Art Theater School’s director.
Chronopoulos was born in 1939 in Jerusalem and studied law at the University of Athens, while simultaneously studying at the Art Theater. He participated in numerous plays as an actor but also in Greek films.
In 1965, he traveled to Paris where he studied and acted at the People’s Theater in France. During the Greek Military Junta, he was imprisoned for his participation in an independent resistance group.
He has directed ancient Greek and contemporary plays at the Herodion and Epidavros theaters, as well as films, tv series and documentaries for Greek public broadcaster ERT.
He has been honored for his overall contribution to theater by the Cultural Events Association in Patras. As the Art Theater director he always supported young artists’ efforts.
