Australia-Greece Solidarity Campaign Continues to Support its Cause

yorgos-avgeropoulosThe Australia-Greece Solidarity Campaign committee is working intensely to achieve its goal. As part of its activities as well as the financial support of the campaign, the committee collaborated with the Greek Film Club of Sydney, organizing a viewing of the award-winning documentary by Yorgos Avgeropoulos “Agora” on Thursday, March 5 at 7 p.m. at Gumbramorra Hall, Addison Road Community Centre 142. Addison Road, Marrickville.

The documentary shows the Greek financial crisis evolution since its early stages, while also depicting its impact on the lives of ordinary people from all social classes.

It records the reactions of people on the street, the rise of fascism and solidarity movements, while seeking answers to the most important political figures of the country, as well as insiders, analysts and key decision makers from the international political scene.

After 13 years of ongoing reporting and documenting global issues around the world, Yorgos Avgeropoulos turns his camera towards his homeland. Homeless people, soup kitchens, unemployment, poverty, violent conflicts, the concurrent rise of fascism and solidarity movements.

At the viewing, the audience will have the chance to speak with the Greek director via skype and ask him questions about the movie and his opinion regarding the recent political developments in Greece. The documentary will be screened with English subtitles.

The Australia-Greece Solidarity Campaign has managed to convince the Australian Council of Trade Unions ACTU) and the country’s leading economists to show their solidarity towards the Greek people and asked the Australian government, as well as other governments to push for a Greek debt haircut and for the limitation of austerity measures.
