Greek Students to Participate in Supergravity Experiment

esa-largeFour university student groups -among them a Greek team from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki- were selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop and implement their supergravity experiments.

The experiments will be carried out under the sixth “Spin Your Thesis!” campaign that will be held from September 7 to 18 at the “Large Diameter Centrifuge” located in the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in Nordvik, the Netherlands.

The Greek team, MAH, consists of three PhD students from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, studying predictive microbiology and food processing. The three students are expected to study how microorganisms are affected by exposure to supergravity and thermal stress.

During the preparation of their experiments, Greeks and other students will be supported by ESA’s Education Office. Members of the European Low Gravity Research Association (ELGRA) will also be present, every step of the way, to provide advice in regards to microgravity and supergravity.

ESA will offer financial support to the selected student groups to cover part of the experimental material costs, as well as travel and accommodation expenses.
