IMF Chief: Greece will Stay in Euro Zone

n-HUFFPOST-US-large570International Monetary Fund President Christine Lagarde said that there is no discussion for Greece exiting the euro zone and that she is optimistic the country will come to a satisfying agreement with its creditors and its economy will be restored.
In a Huffington Post live interview, the IMF chief told Arianna Huffington that she hopes the Greek government and European officials can continue productive talks on the Greek debt.
“The dialogue has to be restored. Trust has to be built,” Lagarde said. “All of that has to be with different platforms in mind. It’s not just about growth, it’s not just about fiscal. It’s about making sure that the Greek economy can, on a sustainable basis, be more solid, more effective, create jobs … if they can all go in that direction, listening to each other, not being in a posture type of exchange, I think we’ll be making great progress,” Lagarde said.
The IMF president also said that Greece needs to go through structural reforms and not let the sacrifices of Greek people to go to waste. “The focus should really be on how to capitalize on the efforts that have been made so far,” Lagarde told Arianna Huffington.
Lagarde called on the new government to implement reforms to “unleash productivity” and lead to sustainable development.
“I hope that the structural reforms that are so necessary for the country, can be applied. There was a lot of talk about it, but now it’s time to move the project,” Lagarde said.
Finally, Lagarde said that the IMF is available to advise Greece on necessary reforms and policies.
