“A rift is not the solution,” former prime minister Antonis Samaras said on Monday evening, following the deadlock in negotiations in Brussels between Greece and euro zone finance ministers over the bailout program.
Europe has asked Greece to continue with the existing bailout program, a proposal the Greek government rejected.
The New Democracy leader characterized the failure of negotiations “an unpleasant development,” and called on the Greek government to remain in the process of negotiations, which is, he said, “the only path to a positive outcome for our country.”
“Negotiations must be carried out responsibly because of the seriousness of the situation,” Mr. Samaras said. “We have come a long way, to blow it all up,” he said, adding that “a rift is not the solution.”
