Dijsselbloem: Euro Area Will Not Approve Greek Request for Bridging Program

Jeroen-Dijsselbloem-EUROGROUPEurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem has ruled out a “bridging program” requested by Greece until it can negotiate a new agreement for the country’s debts, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
“We don’t do bridging loans,” Dijsselbloem told reporters in The Hague, when asked about Greece’s requests.
Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis has said that Greece wants “a bridging program between now and the end of May, which would give us space — all of us — to carry out these deliberations and in a short space of time come to an agreement.”
Dijsselbloem, who is due to meet Varoufakis for the second time at the emergency Eurogroup meeting on February 11, said:
“It will be a first step in how we want to proceed together in the next weeks, months. I assume a lot of differences need to be bridged.”
