9-Year-Old Bullying Victim on Greek Island of Mytilene [Video]

bullying-mytileneBullying incidents are on the rise in Greece. A 9-year-old boy from the Greek island of Mytilene, recently sustained injuries after being a victim of bullies while in school.
The 9-year-old student’s mother complained to the school administration that some of the older children asked her child to untangle the basketball net. They lifted him up to grab hold of the basketball rim, but then they wouldn’t help him get down. In fact, her son started pleading and begging for them to get him down — his hands hurt from hanging for so long and no one would help him.
Eventually the young boy let himself go, breaking both his arms. “They left him hanging from the basketball rim without holding him. They were making him swing, while he yelled for them to help him get down. In the end he fell and broke both his arms,” said Maria Chioteli-Mandouza, mother of the young student.
Furthermore, according to the mother, the gym teacher was close by, but he did nothing to help the boy. Local media, however, noted that everything happened so quickly that teachers had no time to react.
The children who were responsible for the bullying are currently under investigation in order to determine whether they had targeted the 9-year-old boy or if the incident was an accident. The investigation, ordered by the elementary school administration, will also look into the mother’s accusations regarding one of the children who supposedly had bullied her son in the past.
