Imprisoned Terrorist Xeros Violently Beaten by Inmate

XerosThe November 17 terrorist group member Christodoulos Xeros, was violently beaten by another inmate at the maximum security prison of Domokos.
According to police reports, Xeros was attacked by a convict and was savagely beaten in the face. When he was found, he was transferred to the prison’s infirmary where he lost consciousness.
The attack was confirmed by his lawyer Frangiskos Ragkousis, who said that his client did not report the incident and refused to ask for protection from the prison authorities.
Regarding the perpetrator of the attack, there are two different allegations. According to Proto Thema newspaper, Xeros was attacked by long-term convict Vasilis Varelas. The violent criminal has been convicted for the murder of a 35-year-old Albanian man and his 2-year-old son in 2011. Varelas allegedly coordinates a gang of ruthless extortioners in Kalamata, from prison.
Another report from iefimerida.gr cites sources from Domokos prison saying that Xeros was beaten by an inmate who belongs to an anarchist group. Two other key members of the November 17 group are serving long-term sentences in Domokos Prison, namely Alexandros Giotopoulos and Dimitris Koufontinas. Allegedly the two men are not on good terms with Xeros.
It is not known whether the perpetrator acted on his own or if he was following orders.
Christodoulos Xeros had escaped prison after he was given a furlough in January 2014. After being at large for a year, he was arrested on January 3.
