Spanish and Greek PMs Pledge to Protect European Borders and Currency

Mariano Rajoy The shared values and goals of Greece and Spain were discussed in the meeting between Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and his Spanish counterpart Mariano Rajoy this morning at the government headquarters.
Samaras said that Greeks recognize the help of the Spanish people and will return the money Spain has lent to the country, after the 10:00 am meeting between the two country leaders in Athens.
“Spain has actively showed its solidarity to Greece,” Samaras said, stressing that despite the fact Spain went through an economic crisis, the Spanish people lent 26 billion euros to Greece. “Greeks recognize the help of the Spanish people and will return the money borrowed,” he added. The Greek PM also noted that a common past with Spain and the close cooperation between the two countries “have forged our very close relationship.”
Samaras said that the two countries have managed to maintain high competitiveness and extroversion, have lower unemployment figures and at the last quarter of 2014, Greece and Spain showed the highest growth rates.
On his part, the Spanish PM said he is pleased to be in Athens and expressed his support to Samaras, saying that he saw the dynamics of the Greek Prime Minister and called him a “true leader.”
“Our common goal is to protect the European borders and defend the euro,” he said, among other things, and emphasized the need for stability and confidence, now that the two countries come out of the crisis.
During the meeting, according to reports, the two leaders focused on immigration and international terrorism.
