For Alexander Payne, 2015 has brought a lot of stellar developments for his latest film “Downsizing”, scheduled to go into production in early 2016.
Today, Annapurna Pictures, the company that co-produced critically and commercially successful movies such as “American Hustle,” “Her” and the 2015 Oscar buzz target, “Foxcatcher,” recently signed on to finance and produce the Greek-American director’s new project.
This move comes on the heels of Payne locking in an A-list cast for the film. Reese Witherspoon, who previously worked with Payne in the hit movie “Election,” has been cast in the lead female role opposite Matt Damon.
Other high-profile stars such as Alec Baldwin, Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Sudeikis also signed up to work with Payne in “Downsizing.”
The film is a social satire that follows an average guy who realizes he could improve his life by shrinking himself. This is a passion project for Alexander Payne, as he co-wrote the script with Jim Taylor, and is also one of the film’s producers.
The film is planned for release in Christmas 2017.
