Cyprus to Assess Situation as Turkish NAVTEX About to Expire

barbados The Cypriot government is expected to assess the situation as it evolves until December 30, the date on which the Turkish NAVTEX (Navigational Telex) will expire.
Turkey’s NAVTEX, issued on October 3, reserved a large swathe inside Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) for seismic surveys from October 20 to December 30.
In October, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades decided to suspend his participation in the UN-backed negotiations for a solution to the Cyprus problem, after Turkish seismic exploration vessel “Barbaros” entered Cyprus’ EEZ, a few days after the illegal maritime order was issued by Turkey.
