John Stamos will be back on TV as a medieval knight in the series premiere of “Galavant.” The unique show has been one of the most anticipated premieres of the new January TV season.
“Galavant” is a mix of traditional fairytales with elements of a Broadway musical thrown in, as many songs and dance numbers appear throughout the show. Much of the show’s comedy comes from “Galavant” putting a twist on the classic fairytale tropes we all know and love.
Stamos will play Galavant’s rival, Sir Jean Hamm. In order to prepare for the role, Stamos had to suit up in knight’s armor and put on a British accent. According to him, working on “Galavant” was “the most fun [he has] had in a long time working on anything.”
A lot of time and money has been invested in the show and ABC is hoping it pays off. The pilot is rumored to have a budget of $7 million, which is quite a large investment for the show’s unique format. So far, reports coming out from the cast and crew seem to indicate the effort has turned out some great results.
The show will premiere on ABC on January 4, at 8 PM ET. Tune in to watch Stamos as he plays a character he says is “somewhere between Richard Burton and Dick Van Dyke and Mary Poppins”.
