It was revealed on Tuesday, December 16, that the girlfriend of Man Haron Monis, the gunman who sieged the Lindt Chocolate Café in Sydney, is of Greek origin. The 35-year-old woman, Amirah Droudis, used to be named Anastasia Droudis before she converted to Islam.
A few years ago, in January 2009, Amirah uploaded a video on Youtube where she defined herself as a “terrorist.” Furthermore, she spoke about women who have been raped, saying that it is their own fault, while she noted that the Holocaust and the Twin Towers attack on 9/11/2001 were “acts of God.”
“Yes, we are happy about the punishment of September 11. Yes, we are happy about the punishment in Bali. Yes, we are happy about the punishment of the Holocaust and any other punishment that God sends to us,” she said.
The video, entitled “Sister Amirah confessed she was a terrorist! Australian Born With Greek Background Converted to Islam,” attacked western media claiming that they were conducting a propaganda against Allah’s soldiers. The video was uploaded on sheikhharon.com, but was deleted after everything that has happened.
Droudis had been charged for the murder of Man Haron Monis’ wife. Both she and the Sydney siege gunman were accused of stabbing and burning the 30-year-old woman from Fiji, Noleen Hayson Pal.
Monis and Droudis were granted bail on the conditions that they report regularly to Australian police, surrender their passports and stay away from prosecution witnesses.
The question that still haunts Australian authorities is how the Sydney siege gunman was able to acquire a gun, and also why he was not included in the terrorist activity monitoring list.
