On the heels of news that a “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” sequel is in the works, Nia Vardalos is keeping busy by heading into a new project for the new year. She will be starring in the comedic drama “Forget Me Not.”
Directed by Michael Aloyan, the film centers on siblings Emil and Elaine, who are shocked to find that their widowed, Alzheimer’s-afflicted mother has formed a sweet yet unconventional relationship with Walt, a fellow resident at her nursing home. By refusing to sign the consent form that grants their mother the right to see Walt, they clash with Walt’s son, who thinks the relationship is doing both seniors good.
Vardalos plays the role of Catherine in “Forget Me Not.” She will star alongside Jake Abel, with other casting underway. The film is currently in pre-production and scheduled for a 2015 release.
The Greek-Canadian/American actress also wrapped up production on the film “Car Dogs,” scheduled for release sometime this year.
