Athens University Dean and Faculty Members Taken 'Hostage' by Students

Athens university
The faculty members of the University of Athens senate have been taken “hostage” by a group of approximately 50 university students protesting against the decision of the university Dean to hire a private security company to patrol its campus.
The dean had asked the students to attend the board meeting taking place today at 12:30 p.m., in order to express their views on this issue to the senate.
However, 50 students have forced themselves into the building earlier than planned. The Dean, Theodoros Fortsakis, has asked them to leave the room and come back at 12:30 p.m., but they insisted on staying, resulting in tension. The students have decided to lock the Dean and faculty members into the room and have planned a protest rally outside the University of Athens central building at Propylaia, at noon today.
