Greek PM to Visit Cyprus November 7

Samaras-Anastasiadis / ???????-????????????

Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has scheduled an official visit to Cyprus on November 7, ahead of the trilateral summit in Cairo, Egypt, Cypriot government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides confirmed.

Asked whether the trilateral summit in Egypt essentially finalizes the cooperation of Cyprus, Greece and Egypt in the energy sector, Christodoulides said that it is a very important meeting and a number of conclusions are expected to come out of it. He also stressed that consultations at the level of the three countries’ Foreign Ministers who will meet in Nicosia on October 29, in preparation of the Cairo meeting, have already advanced. In addition, he denied to rule out the broadening of this dialogue with other neighboring countries, underlining Cyprus’ significant role and its comparative advantage, due to its excellent relations with the region’s countries, except Turkey.

Earlier on Monday, Turkish “Barbaros” seismic frigate entered Cyprus’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) without permission, fueling, once again, the two countries’  strained relations. The Greek Foreign Ministry called Turkey to “reverse course” over the Cypriot EEZ, while Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said on Sunday that the Turkish actions proved wrong all those who believed in Turkey’s assurances about a substantial contribution to the solution of the Cyprus problem.
