New Ambassador of Israel Presents Credentials to Greek President Papoulias

israel ambassadorIsrael‘s new ambassador to Greece, Irit Ben-Abba, presented her credentials to President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias on Tuesday, October 7.

Ben-Abba, a highly experienced diplomat, joined the Israeli Foreign Ministry in 1983 after completing her military service and university studies. She has served in several key posts in Asia and the Balkans, typically specializing in economic affairs. Ben-Abba has also served as Ambassador of Israel to the Philippines Republic (2000-2003), Ambassador of Israel to Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina and FYROM (2004-2006), Director of the South and Southeast Asia Division of the Israel MFA (1996-2000), DCM of the Israeli Embassy in China (1994-1996) and Consul of Israel in Hong Kong (1986-1989).

For the past 7 years, Ben-Abba was the Deputy Director General of the Economic Affairs Division of the Israel MFA, and Head of the Israeli Delegation to the Donors’ Forum to the Palestinians, responsible for international economic cooperation as well as financial and humanitarian relations with the Palestinians.

Ben-Abba has been honored by the Director General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Prize for Excellence and by the President of the Philippines with the Prize for Best Ambassador (Order of Sikatuna).

The Israeli ambassador held a reception which was attended by state officials and businessmen, including Greek Minister of Public Order Vasilis Kikilias and MPs from several parties. After presenting her credentials, Ben-Abba expressed her desire to help deepen Greek-Israeli relations.
