This morning, a symbolic sit-in at the office of Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris was staged by the city’s municipal employees. The sit-in was scheduled as part of the “work freeze” ordered by the municipal employees’ POE-OTA union.
The municipal employees were protesting about the government’s planned assessment of all public employees, as well as the upcoming revision of the tenure process undertaken in previous years.
“We are resolute in our position as working staff and we do not accept the assessment and the review of contracts, in the belief that these two laws will lead thousands to unemployment,” representative of POE-OTA Minas Monastiridis said.
Boutaris left his office, allowing employees to use the venue to make statements to the press.
