Greek Man Dies While Waiting in Line to Pay ENFIA Tax

A 70–year-old man in Thessaloniki, northern Greece died while waiting in line to pay his ENFIA tax. The man, who initially fainted before completely collapsing, passed away shortly after being transferred to the nearby Papanikolaou hospital.
The man was waiting in line to pay his taxes at a branch office of the National Bank of Greece. He was given medical treatment almost immediately by EKAV doctors who arrived on the scene at approximately 10 am. He is known to have suffered from a heart condition.
Long queues have formed outside bank branches and post offices since early this morning. Citizens are jostling to pay the first installment of their ENFIA tax as soon as possible.
In order to facilitate taxpayers, bank branches and post offices will remain open until 8:30 pm today. The National Bank of Greece has announced that its branches will remain open until 10 pm.
