New Democracy Parliament spokesman Adonis Georgiadis, speaking on the morning show of Greek TV channel “Mega” on Tuesday, stated that “If SYRIZA nationalizes the Hellenic Financial Stability Fund (HFSF), the banks will shut down.”
Georgiadis came into conflict with SYRIZA MP Giorgos Varemenos who was also present on the show. The New Democracy spokesman claimed that if the coalition government falls, he will withdraw his money from the Greek banks and send them abroad. “Will I leave my money [in the banks] so that Varemenos can take it?” questioned Georgiadis. He also claimed that not a single euro will be left in Greek banks if the government collapses.
Varemenos reacted saying that Greece’s banking authorities must intervene for these statements. He also accused New Democracy for being “an ‘old calendarist’, Palaeolithic party.”
