Australian Government Asks for the Return of Greek Senator

sinodinosAustralian Federal Treasurer Joe Hockey asked for the return of Greek former Senator Arthur Sinodinos to the cabinet. Hockey stated that Sinodinos is an honest and capable man “of great personal integrity.”

“Arthur is a wonderful person, a man of great personal integrity, and from my perspective, obviously I’d like to have my assistant treasurer back. But these things need to be resolved and I think everyone is still waiting for the final report from ICAC,” said Hockey at a press conference in Beverly Hills, marking the start of geotechnical drilling for the second stage of the Westconnex project.

Sinodinos stood out in March, after his name was involved in a corruption case investigated by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

On Friday, the Greek senator told ICAC that he did not accept “any responsibility” for the Free Enterprise Foundation donations to the NSW Liberal Party during the last state election campaign.

Sinodinos was then Chairman of the party’s Finance Committee. He claimed that he did not know that property developers, who have been banned from making donations in NSW since January 2010, had donated to the party’s campaign.

On Monday, Hockey said Sinodinos resigned from his position “temporarily.”
