Exhibition of Cult Greek Tourism Posters

posterAn exhibition entitled “A journey in time through art”, organized by the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) in the Embassy of Greece in Melbourne and Canberra, presented Greek tourism posters. The exhibition was held on the occasion of Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni visiting Australia.

The exhibition included official tourism posters published from 1930 to 2000. The chosen posters contributed in making Greece one of the top tourist destinations worldwide.

The posters reflect the natural beauty, the history and the cultural heritage of Greece in magical colors. Many of the tourism posters, which stand as iconic testaments of the developement of Greek tourism through the decades, were created by famous Greek artists and are now considered vintage works of art.

The first Greek tourism poster featuring the Parthenon was photographed by famous photographer Nelly’s. The poster was created just after the foundation of EOT, in the second period of Eleftherios Venizelos’ leadership – during a time when the “Great Idea” (Megali Idea) of making Greece glorious was still alive.
