Papakonstantinou to Appear Before Special Tribunal

PapakonstantinouThe deputy prosecutor of the Supreme Court has requested that former finance minister, Giorgos Papakonstantinou, appear before the Special Supreme Tribunal. In his proposal to the Judicial Council, the prosecutor proposed the trial of Giorgos Papakonstantinou for misconduct, infidelity, and document falsification offenses for removing files from the Lagarde list that involved his relatives.
The files he removed concerned his cousin, Eleni Papakonstantinou, her husband Simeon Sikiaridis, and Andreas Rossonis, husband of the former minister’s other cousin, Marina Papakonstantinou. The prosecutor also suggested bringing Papakonstantinou’s relatives before the Tribunal, seeing as their accounts totaling 1.2 million dollars were “lost” from the original list.
During their plea, Giorgos Papakonstantinou and his relatives denied the charges against them and they were all released conditionally.
The relevant case involving the former heads of the Financial Crime Unit, I. Diotis and I. Kaperelis, have been given some time to prepare their plea until early September, when they will be prosecuted for disloyalty to the service, while Diotis will also face additional charges for creating false documents.
