Leader of the Popular Orthodox Party (LAOS) Giorgos Karatzaferis underwent an angioplasty and stent procedure to open a blocked blood vessel.
Mr. Karatzaferis suffered a cardiovascular episode and was rushed to Iatriko Kentro hospital, Athens, Greece, on Saturday evening.
The surgery was successful and LAOS leader is expected to be released from the ICU Unit of the hospital, where he stayed overnight for precautionary reasons.
LAOS lost its seats in Parliament in the 2012 national elections. It gained 2.7 percent in the May European Parliament elections, which was slightly less than was needed to elect an MEP.
It should be noted that Mr. Karatzaferis was scheduled to travel to Cyprus on Sunday, to attend the events for the 40th anniversary of the Turkish invasion.
